High Links Between Kids With Eczema And The Incidence Of Asthma Disputed
Earlier research had suggested that kids with eczema invariably go on to develop asthma. It seems that the findings has been disputed according to a new study, as reported in the September issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
The new study indicated that at the very most, only 46% of kids with eczema go on to develop asthma. This new figure is considerably lower than the risk estimates provided in many articles and textbooks.
Although I would still call 46% a high percentage, at least parents can rest assured that asthma is not a definite possibility. It is hard to deal with eczema as it is already in kids. Just imagine having to also deal with asthma.
The causes of eczema and asthma are complex. Both conditions can severely impair the quality of life. With little understanding, there can be no help to the increasing numbers of children who are getting eczema. It has been previously reported in the press that as many as 10% of all children develop this skin disorder.
